InsSciDE at AAAS Annual Meeting 2019

InsSciDE is co-organising and participating in the session, ’Beyond or Despite Political Borders: Science Diplomacy and the Construction of Europe’ alongside ’sister projects’ in science diplomacy, S4D4C and EL-CSID - February 16, 10:00-11:30 AM.

The AAAS Annual Meeting takes place in Washington, D.C., Feb 14-17 2019 - a major event in the science and science diplomacy calendars. This year, the conference explores how science can bring together people, ideas, and solutions, across real and artificial borders, disciplines, sectors, ideologies, and traditions.

The three Horizon 2020 ’sister’ projects in science diplomacy, InsSciDE, S4D4C and EL-CSID, come together for the session, ’Beyond or Despite Political Borders: Science Diplomacy and the Construction of Europe’, with the European Commission’s Petri Backman as moderator, AAAS’ Margua Gual Soler as discussant, and the three projects represented by Pascal Griset, Alexander Degelsegger-Márquez, and Luk Van Langenhove respectively.

Pascal Griset will speak on the emergence and affirmation of European science diplomacy - suggesting that science, technological and industrial issues cannot be separated, and that European borders were pragmatically adapted to specific goals. The session will more broadly examine the roles played by science diplomacy, its institutions, and its past and present practitioners in the dynamic interplay of borders characteristic of the European Union (EU).
