Russian State University for the Humanities

Vera Zabotkina is Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Director of the Centre for Cognitive Programs and Technologies, Professor of English at the Department of Translation Studies, Interpretation and Translation at the Russian State University for the Humanities, an alumna of University College London (English department). She is one of the founding figures of the Russian school of cognitive neology and the author of more than 250 publications on the problems of the English vocabulary growth, changes in the English conceptual worldview, pragmatics, conceptual semantics, and cognitive linguistics. 18 Ph.D. dissertations on cognitive aspects of new words in English have been defended under her supervision.

Prof., Dr. Vera Zabotkina has expertise in EU project management (Erasmus+, EMA2, Tempus, Council of Europe and UNICEF projects etc.). She is an Expert of the National Training Foundation, and a certified Higher Education Reform Expert (HERE) and Bologna promoter. She has experience in developing the university strategy of international cooperation with a focus on compatibility of degrees, and curricula development for 2 cycles based on the needs of the labour market. She has also expertise in setting up quality assurance system within dual degree programme within Joint European Tempus Project “Enhancement of Russian creative education: new Master program in Digital Arts in line with EU standards”. Prof. Zabotkina is the editor and one of the authors of the Quality Handbook for Joint International MA Programs.

She is a member of the following international editorial boards: «Culture and Brain» Journal (Springer); Psychology in Russia: State of the Art (Moscow) - SCOPUS; International Journal of Higher Education and Democracy (USA); Voprosy Kognitivnoj Lingvistiki (Problems of Cognitive Linguistics) – SCOPUS; Tuning Journal for Higher Education (University of Deusto, Bilbao, Spain).
